00:00:00
start with the
00:00:03
snap damn it do it never play more Adams
00:00:08
it's an important part of the
00:00:10
role can't even bake
00:00:15
it Adams Family
00:00:19
[Music]
00:00:21
yeah
00:00:23
[Music]
00:00:25
dancece snap snap
00:00:28
snapnap Adam's Family
00:00:30
[Music]
00:00:35
won a Razzy how could he win a Razzy for
00:00:38
that it's a great
00:00:42
song How Could razis were wrong Mr Sir
00:00:46
Hammer himself win a Razzi for his theme
00:00:50
to The Adams Family 99 91 movie maybe he
00:00:54
did one for a 99 movie and that one was
00:00:58
worse
00:01:00
been around new Adams Family wouldn't it
00:01:02
yeah saon couldn't well sabon was too
00:01:06
rich for him was the thing by that
00:01:09
[Music]
00:01:11
point we're talking about The Adams
00:01:14
Family
00:01:15
91 the first liveaction revamp of The
00:01:18
Adams Family since the 60 series yeah
00:01:21
unless you count that weird Halloween
00:01:23
with you I mean that was sort of a
00:01:25
continuation like asterisk weird thing
00:01:28
it had most of the original cast so yeah
00:01:31
but this took a lot of inspiration from
00:01:32
things that were invented specifically
00:01:34
by the' 60s series oh yeah so it's
00:01:38
interesting how even the names cuz those
00:01:40
weren't in the original Comics right
00:01:42
yeah so much of it was formed from that
00:01:44
I think it's interesting Adam's Family
00:01:46
seems to always grow off of the previous
00:01:48
iterations because they had the 60
00:01:51
series and then they had this it took a
00:01:53
lot of the lore that was created from
00:01:54
that to create their own version of it
00:01:57
and then now you go up to like Wednesday
00:01:59
which which is clearly inspired by
00:02:01
Christina Rei's performance as Wednesday
00:02:03
Adams pugs like sit in the chair why so
00:02:06
we can play a game it's
00:02:09
called is there a god so they it kind of
00:02:12
builds off of what they do in each of
00:02:14
them so that's pretty cool Gomez kind of
00:02:16
more suave in the 60s series like John
00:02:20
Aston and then you have you know R Julia
00:02:22
of course playing him in
00:02:24
this
00:02:27
breakfast damn it's good to have you
00:02:29
back let's go he's great he takes like
00:02:32
you that enthusiasm that John Aston
00:02:34
brought to the role let's have the Real
00:02:37
the true the unadorned
00:02:40
You Beautiful he's an amazing Gomez yeah
00:02:44
this one and Adam's Family Values I
00:02:46
would call near perfect movies they're
00:02:48
so damn good and every scene is a good
00:02:51
scene remember Camp Custer for pretin
00:02:57
offenders uh maybe not I don't know
00:02:59
thing doing the FedEx thing but you know
00:03:01
other than
00:03:04
that that just feels like a FedEx
00:03:07
commercial yeah like even with the music
00:03:09
it's like you're just waiting for the
00:03:11
ending tag like FedEx our hands will
00:03:14
come off to get your packages so to you
00:03:16
so quick something like
00:03:21
[Music]
00:03:24
that you might as well have inserted one
00:03:27
of those random like car commercials
00:03:29
that they did at the time for how how
00:03:31
much that fit in with the tone of the
00:03:33
rest of the movie I want something easy
00:03:36
to drive it's will have to carry
00:03:39
mountains of luggage looks pretty tough
00:03:43
I like
00:03:44
[Music]
00:03:53
it yeah the whole cast is pretty much
00:03:56
perfect I do always forget though that
00:03:58
Carol Kane is only grandama Frump I
00:04:01
guess she's Frump in this one in the
00:04:04
second movie right they changed some of
00:04:06
the relationships notably comic strip
00:04:09
and the the original series as well
00:04:11
right or did the comic even establish I
00:04:12
don't know if the comic established like
00:04:14
in the series so Fester was morticia's
00:04:17
uncle and then in this he's Gomez's
00:04:20
brother F Gomez
00:04:25
FAS
00:04:28
FAS
00:04:32
so's I guess he's Uncle Fester to the
00:04:34
kids only right please Uncle Fester for
00:04:38
the
00:04:41
picture and then grandma was Gomez's
00:04:45
mother and now she's morticia's mother
00:04:47
right cuz you'd have Grandma Frum come
00:04:49
and do visits sometimes in the old show
00:04:52
I think she's a good grandma Adams from
00:04:55
I thought Carol Kane was a little bit
00:04:57
better I think it's just cuz I like
00:04:59
Carol cane better though I think she
00:05:01
still did a great job with the role I
00:05:03
think everyone was pretty perfectly cast
00:05:05
and some of them it seemed like unusual
00:05:07
choices I don't know if I would Peg
00:05:09
Christopher Lloyd as a Fester Adams from
00:05:11
what he'd done previously yeah you see
00:05:14
it though and you're like oh that F so
00:05:16
well three parts Dynamite with a Nitro
00:05:19
glycerin cap as perfect for small homes
00:05:22
cardboards and Tool Fester is a
00:05:25
character who he's either the best or
00:05:26
the worst part of it depending on the uh
00:05:29
the iteration that you're watching why
00:05:31
are you looking for me I wanted to talk
00:05:33
to you alone don't be silly how can we talk
00:05:37
if we're both alone plus of course we
00:05:39
use the
00:05:44
telephone goz please you start
00:05:49
[Music]
00:05:53
ligy something is terribly terribly
00:05:56
wrong I found it walzer's a rare
00:05:59
tendency towards ordinary behavior and
00:06:02
ballroom dancing and there's no known
00:06:05
cure yeah I don't know it's very easy to
00:06:07
go wrong with fester and it was
00:06:09
interesting too they had a lot of early
00:06:11
looks for the characters that were
00:06:13
different and especially with Fester you
00:06:16
can see in some early promo material got
00:06:19
eggh head Prosthetics going on it's very
00:06:21
weird yeah theyve done some facial
00:06:23
Prosthetics to help him look heavier but
00:06:25
they didn't like that look and
00:06:26
eventually what they went with it's kind
00:06:28
of like tiny head Christopher Lloyd
00:06:31
skinny guy in a fat suit little guy in a
00:06:35
b but somehow it's still kind of works
00:06:38
mhm I think it's probably the better
00:06:40
choice yeah you wouldn't recognize him
00:06:42
from what they did with the Prosthetics
00:06:44
he probably would have done a great job
00:06:46
but I think this allowed him more
00:06:47
expression and more movements than the
00:06:49
Prosthetics would have especially when
00:06:51
you're looking at scenes like the
00:06:53
Mamushka scene and all that like he's
00:06:54
got to do a lot of physical stuff in
00:06:56
this movie he does a lot of big
00:06:58
Expressions even even when he's just
00:07:00
acting with his eyes he's still acting
00:07:03
big apparently the kid that played
00:07:06
Pugsley in this movie he went with his
00:07:08
sister to the audition she was
00:07:10
auditioning for Wednesday and she said
00:07:12
oh everyone says my brother looks like
00:07:15
Pugsley oh yeah get him in here and they
00:07:17
cast him of course and then not her a
00:07:20
she must have been like yeah the
00:07:23
regret I wondered about that Family
00:07:26
Dynamic for the next 20 years he's the
00:07:28
one that's gone on to do the least he's
00:07:30
like a transportation coordinator now or
00:07:33
something and uh but I still thought
00:07:35
that he did a great job as Pugsley
00:07:37
Pugsley got kind of a backseat from what
00:07:39
he was doing in the 60s but Pugsley was
00:07:41
never really that great of a character
00:07:43
so I think like the the way that they
00:07:45
utilized him in this movie as more of a
00:07:47
supporting character like fit pretty
00:07:49
well it's pretty much the best use of
00:07:51
Pugsley you don't want him to overstay
00:07:53
as welcome cuz he is kind of like the
00:07:55
least interesting character in the main
00:07:58
family he was more of a focus initially
00:08:00
and then they realized that Wednesday
00:08:01
was a little more interesting though
00:08:03
Wednesday in the 60 series was still
00:08:06
pretty young so she wasn't like the
00:08:08
Christina reachi iteration that doll
00:08:10
doesn't have a head it's Maran tette pxy
00:08:13
chopped off her head this is what really
00:08:16
forms Wednesday like up until the
00:08:18
Wednesday series obviously takes a lot
00:08:21
of inspiration from this haven't you
00:08:23
ever slaughtered anyone he's only a
00:08:25
child the way that she plays it very
00:08:27
dead pan instead of like is isn't it
00:08:29
funny that a little girl is creepy she
00:08:31
is genuinely just creepy and more
00:08:34
sadistic I think it's one of those
00:08:36
movies where everyone commits to the
00:08:39
character yeah so it's not people trying
00:08:41
to be funny in a way it's like you know
00:08:44
they're funny because their characters
00:08:45
are weird the thing that strikes me
00:08:48
about Adam's family and I think this is
00:08:49
why it endures is that the joke is that
00:08:52
they're so weird everyone's like why are
00:08:53
they so weird why do they love all this
00:08:55
stuff but it is such a a positive
00:08:57
portrayal of a family and it comes off
00:09:00
seeming very healthy even though like
00:09:03
despite the fact they love beheadings
00:09:04
and all of this other stuff the part
00:09:07
where like Wednesday's coming in with a
00:09:09
knife and then morti is like is that for
00:09:11
your brother I don't think so cuz you're
00:09:14
like this giant Cleaver is that for your
00:09:17
brother I don't think
00:09:22
so so many comedies they they kind of
00:09:25
root themselves in misery and you would
00:09:27
think that this because it's such a maob
00:09:30
subject The Adams Family loves all this
00:09:32
creepy cooky stuff cuz they're creepy
00:09:34
and they're cooky they creepy and
00:09:36
they're cooky that they would go that
00:09:38
direction but it isn't because they love
00:09:40
all of this stuff and they love each
00:09:41
other so despite the fact they're
00:09:43
talking about all of these creepy things
00:09:45
really love is what centers this
00:09:49
film screams in the night it can only
00:09:52
mean one thing he's home these people on
00:09:55
the outside are strange they're weird
00:09:58
but underneath need they're okay fact I
00:10:01
used to say we were Health the
00:10:02
healthiest family on television it was
00:10:04
part of like what made the original
00:10:07
series a bit different it was something
00:10:09
John Aston fought for he wanted Gomez
00:10:11
and mortia to be a loving couple instead
00:10:14
of you I hate my wife thing you
00:10:16
typically saw at the time at that time
00:10:18
it was historic to have a husband and
00:10:20
wife who really loved each other if so
00:10:22
un usual all we had to do was be in love
00:10:24
and we were very different they used to
00:10:26
do a a promo hi this is G as Adams my
00:10:29
wife mortia and I are the only well
00:10:32
adjusted couple on television yeah it's
00:10:34
it's one of the most romantic couples
00:10:36
ever it's like relationship goals you
00:10:38
know MH it's nice you got people who
00:10:41
really loved their roles like R Julia I
00:10:44
guess really loved playing Gomez he
00:10:47
loved being recognized as Gomez the same
00:10:50
with Christina RI I guess this is one of
00:10:52
her favorite roles she ever did man I
00:10:55
mean if it were me I'd be proud of that
00:10:56
too you know like they were both perfect
00:10:59
in their roles and R Julia you could
00:11:02
tell was just having a
00:11:07
blast Showtime I think none of the Gomez
00:11:11
is as
00:11:12
topped as Gomez Adams like it was just
00:11:15
perfect he had the physicality he had
00:11:17
the energy Spirits above me Give Me A
00:11:20
Sign shall I be joyous or shall I be
00:11:23
dead he had the right amount of
00:11:25
creepiness when it was needed and he was
00:11:27
swave yeah uh he was just cool he's
00:11:30
Solen he's F backstabbing I suspect himb
00:11:34
and I hate him he is f I thought it was
00:11:38
interesting Angelica Houston thought she
00:11:40
wasn't going to get the role she thought
00:11:42
for sure was going to go to share
00:11:44
because like I think Sher probably could
00:11:45
do a pretty good mortia Adams but like
00:11:48
Angelica Houston feels like she just has
00:11:50
that Vibe she has that great kind of
00:11:52
cool calm exterior with like this
00:11:55
Mischief behind her eyes slight hint of
00:11:57
malice might be there yeah she has like
00:11:59
very subtle facial expressions but you
00:12:02
can tell it just shifts a little bit
00:12:04
into whatever the next emotion is and
00:12:06
that's just it's perfect and the hand
00:12:09
that played
00:12:11
thing they had a magician play him
00:12:13
because they have good dexterity and
00:12:15
stuff which you know helps I guess if
00:12:17
you want thing to have any kind of real
00:12:19
emotion to it you need someone who's
00:12:21
really good with their hands like a
00:12:23
magician yeah I think the evolution of
00:12:25
thing is really interesting the original
00:12:28
series it's not explicitly just a hand
00:12:31
it's possibly connected to more of a
00:12:33
thing but you never see it well and they
00:12:35
had Ted Cassidy who was Lurch play thing
00:12:39
and that caused a lot of problems for
00:12:40
them because he was such a large actor
00:12:42
and they had to hide him from being seen
00:12:44
on screen except for his hand and I
00:12:46
guess that was just something that was
00:12:47
handy because he was
00:12:50
handy I didn't even know I was making a
00:12:52
pun but it was handy to have him around
00:12:55
because he I mean he's around for
00:12:57
filming but after that starting with
00:12:59
this movie they would cast magicians
00:13:01
because they could use their hands
00:13:03
really well and act with their hands
00:13:05
yeah and so the guys that play thing I
00:13:08
don't think there were that many of them
00:13:10
they would specialize in playing hands
00:13:13
in movies I'm a hand model Mama a finger
00:13:15
jockey we don't think the same way as
00:13:17
the face and body boys do which is weird
00:13:19
like I think like one of them did the
00:13:21
the hand and Idol hands you know like
00:13:23
just became the hand guy like how do you
00:13:25
hire a hand oh get that guy wait a
00:13:28
minute I know that hand you're world's
00:13:30
greatest hand model you freaking idiot
00:13:33
but again perfect casting because it was
00:13:35
someone who knew how to do all of the
00:13:37
physicality through their hand you can
00:13:39
tell that thing is expressing an emotion
00:13:41
when it's like oh I'm sad oh I'm excited
00:13:44
about something how do you express that
00:13:46
through your hand I guess that guy had
00:13:48
to think of it they had to do a lot of
00:13:50
that practically too back then so was
00:13:53
still sticking your hand through a table
00:13:55
or getting ready to get rid of the black
00:13:57
so the hand can can just go across the
00:13:59
scene and stuff right I think the most
00:14:02
obvious like hand through a table uh was
00:14:04
the scene where a thing goes to warn
00:14:07
Gomez about mortia being captured and
00:14:09
he's right next to the cereal and like
00:14:11
you can see that the hand yeah inside
00:14:14
the table but it still works like uh I
00:14:17
would still take practical effects where
00:14:19
you can guess how they did it over
00:14:21
digital effects that may not look as
00:14:23
good I don't think we've even gone over
00:14:25
the the plot of this we haven't Fester's
00:14:27
been lost for long time like 25 years
00:14:31
I'll See You Again
00:14:34
in5
00:14:36
years and Gomez wants to find him his
00:14:40
lawyer owes his lone shark some money
00:14:44
which ends up being this woman who found
00:14:46
Fester we find out in the end but they
00:14:49
just think it's a guy who looks a lot
00:14:51
like Fester like okay we'll have this
00:14:53
guy impersonate fester and he'll be our
00:14:55
in to steal Gomez's money I find it
00:14:58
weird that she didn't put together that
00:15:01
he was actually the real Fester
00:15:02
considering she found him around that
00:15:04
area she knows the backstory caned
00:15:06
Gordon stop dragging your feet you
00:15:09
disgust me I should have left you where
00:15:11
I found you maybe she did know but it's
00:15:13
weird if she did know why wouldn't she
00:15:14
bring it up because that would help
00:15:16
bolster the whole thing I guess she
00:15:18
didn't want to bring it up to him
00:15:19
because that might make him decide
00:15:21
decide with his real family oh well I
00:15:24
guess I guess that's what happened you
00:15:27
were a terrible
00:15:31
mother that was another big thing though
00:15:34
that changed while this movie was in
00:15:36
production apparently it was going to be
00:15:38
left ambiguous or maybe it was just
00:15:40
going to be flat out that this was not
00:15:42
the real fester and they never know
00:15:44
where the real Fester is by the end at
00:15:47
the end of the original draft the end of
00:15:50
the movie is that Fester is an impostor
00:15:53
they know I'm a fra the whole bunch but
00:15:56
the cast most of them and anyway didn't
00:15:59
really like that so they nominated
00:16:01
Christina REI to go make an impassion
00:16:04
plea which the director Barry sonnenfeld
00:16:07
said it was very convincing and he said
00:16:09
like you know okay I think they're right
00:16:12
so we will change this and he said like
00:16:15
yeah and I think they were right in the
00:16:16
end I think that was the right way to go
00:16:18
they were cuz it would be a weird thing
00:16:20
to leave hanging and it would be I think
00:16:21
a little too far off the lore to be like
00:16:24
even if he sided with them like I guess
00:16:26
that's the new Fester like they just
00:16:27
went replac and he just liked
00:16:29
Christopher Lloyd anyway so it was nice
00:16:31
that he got that Redemption Arc I'm not
00:16:33
sure if it would have ended the same way
00:16:35
if he was just Gordon she was so
00:16:38
articulate we changed the script so
00:16:41
Christina was another brilliant Edition
00:16:43
I think that's so funny they're like
00:16:44
Christina re you're the cutest yeah you
00:16:47
go talk to the director please all of
00:16:50
them are season professionals and
00:16:52
they're like go on
00:16:54
Christina except for Christopher Lloyd
00:16:57
who apparently the only one who's like I
00:17:00
don't
00:17:01
care he could be a fraud or
00:17:04
not I think that's hilarious I'm sure he
00:17:07
was probably like either way is fine
00:17:09
with me but the way that trivia was
00:17:12
worded like he was the one person you
00:17:14
didn't care just like I don't give a
00:17:16
[ __ ] make him the biggest monster in the
00:17:19
world film the
00:17:22
movie thanks what if he was an [ __ ]
00:17:25
about it like I don't care holding up
00:17:28
production we're going to be changing
00:17:29
Studios by the time this thing is done
00:17:32
yeah I think a lot of the behind the
00:17:33
scenes is somewhat more interesting than
00:17:36
what we see on screen even though it's a
00:17:38
really great movie but so much of this
00:17:40
really shouldn't have worked but did
00:17:43
because like you said the production
00:17:45
company went under while they were
00:17:46
making it Orion didn't quite go under
00:17:48
but they were close to it so they're
00:17:50
selling things which is why they
00:17:52
unloaded The Adams Family cuz they were
00:17:54
terrified of another flop which that
00:17:57
didn't work out for
00:17:58
I could see them thinking though you
00:18:00
know like they're like okay this is an
00:18:02
adaptation of an old series like maybe
00:18:05
there's a lot of bad adaptations
00:18:07
especially around that time Adam's
00:18:09
family I guess was pretty obscure at the
00:18:12
time a lot of people probably weren't
00:18:14
watching the 60s show by then this was
00:18:17
modernizing it in a cool way which a lot
00:18:20
of adaptations of things from like the
00:18:22
60s in the 9s didn't always turn out
00:18:25
that well you they would focus on like
00:18:27
older properties and make them kind of
00:18:28
goofy comedies or what if they went to
00:18:30
the real world like stupid [ __ ] like
00:18:33
that it updated things but kept it like
00:18:35
true to what you thought of from The
00:18:38
Adams Family these feel like the
00:18:40
characters just modernized for 91 yeah
00:18:44
all the changes that they made made
00:18:46
sense the fact that they made Fester
00:18:48
Gomez's brother helped build that
00:18:50
relationship in a way that was
00:18:51
interesting in the movie that wouldn't
00:18:53
necessarily work if he was Mor tisha's
00:18:56
Uncle so they created a different kind
00:18:58
of dynamic with it that was more
00:19:00
interesting making thing just a hand
00:19:02
gave it more things to do it did so I
00:19:06
think all of those changes made sense
00:19:08
and they still managed to modernize it
00:19:10
like it doesn't feel like a 60 sitcom
00:19:13
with a laugh track but it has the same
00:19:14
feel of it there are so many almost with
00:19:17
this film Tim Burton was one of the
00:19:19
first choices but he was like busy with
00:19:21
Batman Returns and The Nightmare Before
00:19:24
Christmas at the time so it ended up
00:19:26
being directed by Barry sonnenfeld who
00:19:28
did a lot of Photography he' be the lead
00:19:30
photographer on a bunch of movies and
00:19:32
stuff which is I think the reason why
00:19:35
this is such a visual film I used to be
00:19:37
a cinematographer i chot the first three
00:19:39
colen brothers movies I was a
00:19:42
cinematographer on both When Harry Met
00:19:44
Sally and misery for Rob Riner you know
00:19:46
what that makes a lot of sense because
00:19:48
there's a lot of really interesting
00:19:50
shots just what they decide to focus on
00:19:52
at the beginning of the shots how they
00:19:54
decide to focus on the scenery the fact
00:19:56
that mortia has this ey light that's
00:19:59
constantly following her like all of the
00:20:01
shots look really appealing to the eye
00:20:04
except Angelica Houston's which were
00:20:06
repealed back by like bands to do the
00:20:10
mortia kind of weird
00:20:12
eyes that was not appealing to her
00:20:15
eyes I guess she would have to take
00:20:18
these bands off during lunch otherwise
00:20:19
she'd get a bad headache from having it
00:20:21
on all day yeah that'd be the the Jordy
00:20:23
visor problem you know like but she
00:20:27
looked great mhm
00:20:30
what do we think of the villains in this
00:20:31
the uh the accountant and the the evil
00:20:34
mother Fester turn the big thing is the
00:20:38
turmoil within Fester Gordon as he's
00:20:42
going through the movie he's kind of
00:20:44
realizing he likes all this weird stuff
00:20:46
going on in The Adams Family and he's at
00:20:49
odds with his mother he's just like you
00:20:50
know find the way to Gomez's money you
00:20:54
idiot the best is the ending for the
00:20:58
human main villains cuz they just get
00:21:00
shot right into open craves which
00:21:03
already have their
00:21:04
tombstones I guess they killed
00:21:10
them are they
00:21:12
dead does it matter maybe it's ambiguous
00:21:15
but they seem to have murdered them or
00:21:17
at least they'll be dead shortly after
00:21:19
they get buried alive uh I like that
00:21:22
Fester didn't give a [ __ ] about his
00:21:23
adoptive mom no I mean she's kind of a
00:21:26
jerk to him she was a bad mom she did
00:21:28
raise him for a while but he's like ah
00:21:32
[ __ ] but how old was fer right then I
00:21:36
don't know when they showed them they
00:21:37
seemed to be maybe High School age cuz
00:21:39
they were like in a dance or something
00:21:41
when they said they're falling out was
00:21:43
because Gomez ended up stealing these
00:21:45
siamese twins from Fester while CU he
00:21:48
was so dashing I woed them both out of
00:21:50
Foolish Pride you were so dashing you
00:21:53
could have any woman you wanted cuz he
00:21:55
was so dashing and he was jealous of him
00:21:58
uh it's great uh there's so many great
00:22:00
moments in this movie uh I love when
00:22:02
they go to the school pageant talent
00:22:05
show what a performance it's very weird
00:22:08
I think it's a talent show maybe
00:22:09
supposedly Pugsley and Wednesday are
00:22:12
doing some kind of Hamlet thing yet
00:22:14
these other kids are dressed as flowers
00:22:16
yeah it seemed like a class project but
00:22:18
they had their own solo thing uh yeah
00:22:20
they come out as flowers and Gomez and
00:22:22
mortia I think this is the only time in
00:22:24
the movie they seem completely
00:22:27
disgusting
00:22:29
very relatable though being disgusted at
00:22:34
this and then Wednesday and Pugsley come
00:22:36
out and they just spray everyone with
00:22:38
blood it's such nonsense because like
00:22:41
how how would they have all of this
00:22:43
Blood they'd have to have like gallons
00:22:45
of it and tubes leading off the stage to
00:22:48
set this up it's so elaborate but the
00:22:50
payoff is so good yeah just there's like
00:22:52
a Big Splash Zone in the crowd I guess
00:22:56
like The Adams Family though they have
00:22:58
magic so maybe they just like tapped
00:23:00
into some portal Sho they have magic
00:23:03
what's Magic in this one the book at the
00:23:05
end I that's
00:23:07
[Music]
00:23:14
true there's got to be some magic
00:23:17
involved with that right they have other
00:23:18
books too that were doing things cuz at
00:23:20
one point the lawyer tanning with one of
00:23:22
the books that's shooting light out of
00:23:24
it oh yeah yeah I mean I guess I've
00:23:26
never seen a movie that killed their V
00:23:28
off by opening a book and having a
00:23:30
hurricane blow them
00:23:33
away you got Mercedes McNab in her first
00:23:37
appearance cuz she's in both of them
00:23:39
that's different characters that's
00:23:40
during the portion of the film when uh
00:23:42
the Adams's are kicked out of their
00:23:45
house cuz Fester has claimed it and they
00:23:47
have to go look for jobs the judge side
00:23:50
is with Fester because he hates Gomez
00:23:53
Gomez is always golfing and knocking
00:23:55
golf balls through his windows yeah
00:23:57
Gomez kind kind of had it comment he was
00:23:59
kind of a
00:24:00
jerk damn you Adams sorry about the
00:24:04
window judge I you love it at the
00:24:06
beginning too we got to talk about this
00:24:08
the it starts with like Christmasy stuff
00:24:10
going on yeah how' that judge not get
00:24:12
them on that yeah they pour boiling
00:24:15
water on Christmas carolers I mean it's
00:24:18
always like The Adams Family are maybe
00:24:20
killing people especially in the new
00:24:22
Adams Family where people kind of die in
00:24:24
their yard constantly and there's like a
00:24:26
postman who was there for like 30 years
00:24:29
or
00:24:30
something they're very happy murderers
00:24:33
yeah I don't know how the judge didn't
00:24:34
get them on that one I feel like you
00:24:35
probably notice caroler screaming as
00:24:38
boiling hot water boiling I think it's
00:24:39
boiling oil yeah boiling oil it's even
00:24:43
worse and that's a direct adaptation of
00:24:45
one of Charles Adams Comics yeah that
00:24:48
had to be something they filmed last to
00:24:50
add it on because they knew it was going
00:24:51
to be a late November going into
00:24:54
December release cuz otherwise it starts
00:24:56
on Christmas for that one scene and then
00:24:59
it has to be March for the rest of it
00:25:01
because 7 months later at the end of the
00:25:03
film it's Halloween so it had to have
00:25:06
been around then you just got one scene
00:25:09
where they boil they pour boiling oil
00:25:12
this is just what they're like anyway
00:25:14
yeah uh you're going to love this family
00:25:17
they hate Christmas carolers they kill
00:25:21
people how do they get away with it cuz
00:25:25
Gomez is so Charming I love when he
00:25:26
calls into Sally Jesse Raphael and about
00:25:29
like the voodoo priest they so annoyed
00:25:31
with him Mr Adams please stop calling we
00:25:36
do not know where they meet he knew when
00:25:38
to smile about stuff you know when him
00:25:41
and morti are flirting and then uh
00:25:43
they're talking about when they first
00:25:45
met like at a funeral you were so
00:25:47
beautiful no one even looked at the
00:25:50
corpse your cousin B is you still a
00:25:55
suspect yeah F memory
00:25:58
mortia somehow becomes a kindergarten
00:26:01
teacher which is really weird yeah I
00:26:04
don't know if she go does she have
00:26:05
qualifications for was she a teacher at
00:26:08
some point I feel like no I feel like
00:26:10
she has never been gainfully employed
00:26:12
anywhere cuz they seem to just have
00:26:14
riches and and hobbies seem to be their
00:26:16
job maybe if Magic School existed like
00:26:19
in the Wednesday show she she did major
00:26:23
in hex's so you're talking about spells
00:26:24
and hexes you're saying Magic's in this
00:26:26
world I guess to get the kids to cry the
00:26:29
director had to tell the kids they were
00:26:31
going to get their measles shots after
00:26:34
and that's how they got them to cry oh
00:26:36
no he's like I feel real bad at
00:26:40
him at the end of that scene when you
00:26:42
see all those kids cry those are real
00:26:45
tears because I was so
00:26:50
horrible it's a dark humor going on to
00:26:53
make the
00:26:56
movie like we can't we can't get them to
00:26:59
realistically cry so are we going to do
00:27:02
this it's kind of crazy to think like
00:27:04
this is where Wednesday torturing
00:27:06
Pugsley started cuz that's been a thing
00:27:08
ever since yeah I don't know if he's
00:27:10
supposed to be older than her in this he
00:27:12
is supposed to be but Christina Richi in
00:27:15
reality was slightly older than him oh
00:27:17
okay she looks younger but she is aged
00:27:19
up from what Wednesday was prior to that
00:27:22
so I think that helped you from being
00:27:24
like isn't it funny a little girl says
00:27:26
kind of creepy things into like
00:27:28
something a little different with it
00:27:30
obviously she's a little more sadistic y
00:27:33
I think the third movie that they did
00:27:35
here and the new Adams Family other
00:27:37
things sometimes didn't really
00:27:39
understand what worked about her
00:27:41
torturing her brother it was supposed to
00:27:42
be kind of kids playing with each other
00:27:45
but it's like amped up from what that
00:27:47
you know kids don't normally try to put
00:27:49
them each other into a guillotine or
00:27:51
whatever once in a while new Adam's
00:27:53
Family seemed to get but then they would
00:27:55
just kind of repeat the same thing over
00:27:57
and over yeah they would just repeatedly
00:27:59
do it but they wouldn't really come up
00:28:00
with a lot of things other things for
00:28:02
the problem it wasn't there was no
00:28:04
variation like what if it's the same
00:28:05
scene where she's just torturing him
00:28:08
yeah well they would also show the
00:28:09
characters being affectionate to each
00:28:11
other so never really felt like she was
00:28:13
literally trying to murder her brother
00:28:15
and that was their playtime which was
00:28:17
what made it so funny it wasn't just the
00:28:19
entirety of the character yeah mka let's
00:28:23
dance it like yeah the Mamushka there
00:28:26
was more Mamushka in what we watched
00:28:29
that's the only difference between the
00:28:31
two versions just a Leng Mamushka scene
00:28:33
why do they bother putting two versions
00:28:35
of the movie on the Blu-ray
00:28:38
Brothers
00:28:41
brother I know there's aost of others
00:28:44
yeah that's kind of crazy just for how
00:28:46
little that is it's just basically Gomez
00:28:48
has a bit more of a song to the Mamushka
00:28:51
dance yeah yeah they cut it down I was
00:28:53
like I didn't remember I was like did
00:28:55
they actually sing a song in it and I
00:28:57
guess they must have sang
00:28:59
the mka yeah but they had like a whole
00:29:02
kind of musical number mhm but frankly
00:29:04
my dear I don't give
00:29:08
a they thought it slowed the pace of the
00:29:10
movie down which is why it was cut first
00:29:13
I think it works fine either way but I
00:29:15
don't think it would it's not long
00:29:17
enough to really hurt it yeah I think
00:29:19
it's kind of funny they decide to just
00:29:21
insert a musical number like the Adams
00:29:23
are just the kind of people that are
00:29:24
like and now we'll sing a song
00:29:28
they do have some setup and payoff
00:29:30
foreshadowing with the big Duel at the
00:29:32
end with Gomez and the accountant like
00:29:34
this is a regular thing that they did he
00:29:36
always gets his lawyer to come over and
00:29:38
duel him before they talk business I
00:29:40
guess that sort of explains why that
00:29:42
lawyer even holds up at all in this
00:29:44
fight for any amount of time he's like
00:29:46
oh no the finale is he's before the book
00:29:49
thing he's dueling a lawyer like not
00:29:52
much of a threat but of course there's a
00:29:54
gun I guess fencing versus gun the gun's
00:29:57
probably going to win a lawyer and a
00:29:58
lone shark those the two big enemies
00:30:01
that's true I guess they didn't really
00:30:03
stand much of a
00:30:07
chance the lawyer especially should know
00:30:10
better CU like he knows Gomez has all
00:30:12
these traps and magic and stuff they
00:30:16
didn't know what was coming with Jan
00:30:17
kusac in the second
00:30:20
one complete destruction with her like
00:30:24
the lawyer wife in this one kind of
00:30:27
meets cousin it and then is just going
00:30:29
to leave him I guess for Cousin It
00:30:32
cousin it got like his cool three-
00:30:33
wheeled
00:30:38
cards they used cousin it just enough
00:30:42
again like didn't need to be a featured
00:30:44
player but had some pretty funny
00:30:47
moments knock it
00:30:50
off I enjoyed
00:30:54
that I'll just put that after I enjoy
00:30:57
enjoyed that I enjoyed
00:31:00
that not with red hot
00:31:03
pogers is this going to smell I enjoyed
00:31:06
that where's your costume this is my
00:31:09
costume I'm a homicidal maniac they look
00:31:11
just like everyone else I enjoyed
00:31:16
that I enjoyed that look at
00:31:20
[Music]
00:31:22
you I enjoyed that this is one of my
00:31:26
favorite Halloween movies despite the
00:31:27
fact they tacked on the Christmas scene
00:31:29
