00:00:07
gonna be doing a spark plug change on my
00:00:11
2017 chevy silverado it's got 135 000 on
00:00:14
it already
00:00:16
so it's probably about due um just kind
00:00:19
of maintenance
00:00:20
uh these are the part numbers i'm using
00:00:22
if i'm to local o'reilly's and pick
00:00:24
these up need to check your spark plug
00:00:26
gap these are as they call them gapless
00:00:29
plugs so they don't want you to actually
00:00:31
make a change and change the gap but
00:00:34
they're supposed to be 35 000 so i have
00:00:36
my 35 000 sealer gauge
00:00:38
and it just barely gets in there make
00:00:40
sure you check all of them and make sure
00:00:42
that they're all good
00:00:44
likely if there's a problem they're
00:00:46
either going to be scrunched way down or
00:00:48
pulled way out and it'll be obvious but
00:00:50
it's just kind of a
00:00:52
go through them all to check it make
00:00:54
sure that they're right
00:00:56
rather than to just install it without
00:00:58
checking and install one wrong and then
00:00:59
have a misfire because of that
00:01:02
they do make a special tool for pulling
00:01:03
these wires off but you really don't
00:01:07
need it
00:01:08
they do come off with a little bit of
00:01:09
persistence and yeah a little bit of
00:01:11
finger strength they'll come off not too
00:01:13
bad so some of these wires on the back
00:01:16
side especially where they're hard to
00:01:17
reach they were tough to get to you can
00:01:20
see my head mark right there from
00:01:22
sweating
00:01:23
um i actually found it as easiest
00:01:26
when i was on there i basically just
00:01:28
twisted it right here on the rubber on
00:01:30
the rubber in the middle here until this
00:01:32
rubber boot would turn
00:01:35
i don't don't think that's going to be
00:01:36
that hard on if i'm only twisting it a
00:01:38
half turn
00:01:39
because basically that rubber is seated
00:01:41
on that plug and it hasn't moved for 130
00:01:44
000 miles
00:01:45
so
00:01:46
by twisting it kind of loosen it up and
00:01:49
then pop off kind of like a newer plug
00:01:51
wire should loosening these up the only
00:01:53
thing i can note is
00:01:55
when i put the socket on
00:01:57
it doesn't always seem to be on
00:01:59
right away it's not wanting to suck
00:02:01
right down in there
00:02:03
right but just make sure the socket's on
00:02:06
good and right before you start cranking
00:02:08
on it or you might strip it out
00:02:10
i'm using about a three inch extension
00:02:13
on a 3 8 5
00:02:15
on a 5 8
00:02:16
socket 3 8
00:02:19
drive so
00:02:20
that works pretty good it gets right
00:02:21
past the headers
00:02:24
so i got my plugs out on this side uh
00:02:26
just i'd show them quick
00:02:28
honestly they look like they're in great
00:02:29
shape um
00:02:31
i got that one a little bit dirty
00:02:33
but
00:02:34
i'll try to focus here on the tip of one
00:02:37
of them i'm still warm
00:02:40
you can see
00:02:42
maybe
00:02:44
so you can see exactly where it's
00:02:46
hitting there
00:02:47
it's right where it's supposed to be
00:02:48
right where it's meant to be
00:02:50
you can see the color on these looks
00:02:52
pretty good
00:02:54
um this one might have had
00:02:57
some two might have a little bit more
00:02:58
oil than the rest but
00:03:00
otherwise they look really clean um
00:03:03
they got that nice nice brown color to
00:03:05
them so the engine's running healthy
00:03:08
without any issues there so
00:03:10
overall plugs look like they're pulled
00:03:13
out of a very healthy engine which is
00:03:14
what i expected it to be
00:03:17
so here's just a quick side by side of
00:03:19
what the new versus old
00:03:22
so one thing to note while installing
00:03:24
these i like using
00:03:25
just uh the wrench and
00:03:28
socket and extension to put these in you
00:03:30
can use your finger to put them in but
00:03:32
basically you just gotta
00:03:34
reach right in there carefully into the
00:03:36
hole and then you want to run these all
00:03:38
the way in by hand uh the torque is 11
00:03:42
to 13 foot pounds
00:03:43
my torque wrench doesn't go that low so
00:03:46
i'm going to do it by hand but it
00:03:48
doesn't take much
00:03:50
11 to 13 is not a lot
00:03:52
my wrench here is about a foot long so
00:03:55
i'm pushing about 11 to 13 foot pounds
00:03:58
worth
00:03:59
nothing more if you tighten them down
00:04:00
too much this is just an aluminum
00:04:03
cylinder head here so you can actually
00:04:05
over torque these really easily so
00:04:08
something to be careful about i'm going
00:04:10
to go ahead and torque all these down
00:04:11
now
00:04:13
you use some dielectric grease
00:04:15
um
00:04:16
this one's loctite but it's dye electric
00:04:19
grease
00:04:21
uh essentially you just put it
00:04:23
right in there um
00:04:25
and
00:04:27
i always put in way too much but i'd
00:04:29
rather have way too much and not enough
00:04:32
and then you just
00:04:33
slide your plug wire right back on
00:04:36
and you should feel
00:04:38
a definite positive click
00:04:40
when you get it on all the way
00:04:43
you should know it
00:04:45
of course i don't know it so
00:04:48
oh there there was
00:04:51
yeah
00:04:52
you can feel it right when that cap
00:04:54
slides right on
00:04:55
you'll know it when you feel it
00:04:57
just make sure that you get it on all
00:04:58
the way
00:05:01
so i just wanted to point out this
00:05:04
front one on the left side is a bit of a
00:05:06
bear
00:05:07
to get to
00:05:08
it's right underneath these hoses this
00:05:10
hose the heater core hoses they sit
00:05:12
right about there and you can see
00:05:15
where that plug wire was set this kind
00:05:17
of up just out of the way and then your
00:05:19
hand fits through and you can get to it
00:05:22
all right so i hope you can see this
00:05:24
here's my tire on the front right side
00:05:27
and if you look
00:05:29
deep into there you'll see my wrench
00:05:31
that's the back of the engine block
00:05:33
there
00:05:34
that's the number eight spark plug um
00:05:37
this is actually way easier to get to it
00:05:39
um you wouldn't think so but there's
00:05:41
actually a lot of room up here i got my
00:05:43
hand curled underneath the
00:05:46
underneath the frame rail here around
00:05:47
the exhaust
00:05:49
and then there's actually a lot of room
00:05:50
for a wrench up here so
00:05:53
um
00:05:54
yeah i can tighten down my spark plug
00:05:55
from up here
00:05:56
uh just i did have to trade my extension
00:06:00
out from a three inch down to like a one
00:06:02
inch
00:06:04
but that works fine so
00:06:06
at least to loosen this one and
00:06:08
get uh the new one back in uh it's
00:06:12
almost
00:06:13
it's definitely possible from the top
00:06:14
side but you gotta stand on your head
00:06:16
and i'm not a fan of that so i came
00:06:18
around here on the bottom side and it
00:06:20
was pretty easy i didn't even have to
00:06:22
take any of these connectors off of my
00:06:24
liner here so just able to get right in
00:06:26
there and
00:06:27
get right at it from here i like to
00:06:31
just check what the temperatures are for
00:06:33
the cylinders obviously there's going to
00:06:35
be a little bit of variance in it but
00:06:37
basically that way i can check and make
00:06:39
sure that
00:06:40
every cylinder is still firing so
00:06:42
yeah just a simple little check and
00:06:45
gives me a peace of mind that i know
00:06:47
that every single spark plug is going to
00:06:48
be working for me
