00:00:00
In today's video, I'm going to show you
00:00:01
how to create a really cool slideshow animation effect
00:00:04
between two photos.
00:00:05
Plus, add some sound effects.
00:00:07
Let's get into it
00:00:13
So here my timeline.
00:00:14
I have these archival photos of bananas
00:00:17
that I got from the Wikimedia Commons
00:00:19
and by the way, if you're a documentary filmmaker
00:00:21
or journalist
00:00:22
and you need access to some really cool
00:00:24
archival source photos.
00:00:26
Wikimedia Commons is a ton of public
00:00:28
domain photos that you can use
00:00:30
for free in your videos.
00:00:32
So for this particular effect,
00:00:34
I'm going to add a slight blur
00:00:36
and just a very subtle zoom effect
00:00:39
between these photos.
00:00:40
And this effect was inspired by Jonnny
00:00:42
Harris's documentaries
00:00:43
on his YouTube channel
00:00:45
and also his recent video
00:00:47
on the history of Bananas
00:00:48
in Central America.
00:00:49
Highly recommended.
00:00:50
That's why I chose these banana
00:00:52
archival photos.
00:00:53
So the first step is to select
00:00:55
the second photo.
00:00:56
Here, we're going to start with
00:00:57
just adding an animation
00:00:58
to the very beginning
00:00:59
of the second photo.
00:01:01
So we're going to go up to Effects
00:01:02
and search for Gaussian Blur and
00:01:04
drag and drop this
00:01:05
or you can double click
00:01:06
if you have the photo selected
00:01:08
Double click to apply it.
00:01:09
And now over, in
00:01:10
effect, controls,
00:01:11
you can see we have the guassian blur.
00:01:14
Now we want the photo
00:01:15
to start out blurry.
00:01:17
So we're going to increase
00:01:18
the blurriness here to 40
00:01:21
and then we want to keyframe.
00:01:23
So we're going to select the stopwatch,
00:01:26
the toggle animation
00:01:27
to create this
00:01:28
first little keyframe here.
00:01:30
Now we want this to be a fairly
00:01:31
quick transition.
00:01:32
It's a very subtle effect.
00:01:34
So we're going to move around
00:01:36
six frames forward.
00:01:37
So you can play around
00:01:38
with different timings,
00:01:40
but I'll just use my arrow keys to go
00:01:41
one, two, three, four, five, six.
00:01:44
And I'm going to reduce this to zero.
00:01:47
So now between these two keyframes,
00:01:49
we have this
00:01:50
very short little blur effect.
00:01:53
So now we need to add
00:01:54
a subtle scale and animation,
00:01:56
but we're not going to animate the scale.
00:01:58
And I'll tell you why in just a second.
00:02:00
Instead, you're going to go over to Effects and
00:02:02
search for Transform.
00:02:05
And this is underneath distort
00:02:07
And we're going to double click
00:02:09
to apply this to the same photo.
00:02:11
And here we have Transform.
00:02:13
And here
00:02:14
we're going to add
00:02:15
some animation to the scale.
00:02:16
So if you want it to start
00:02:17
more zoomed in,
00:02:19
we can increase this, let's say to one 25.
00:02:22
We need to press the toggle animation.
00:02:24
And now we can move six frames forward.
00:02:26
And let's bring this down to one ten.
00:02:29
And then we can move like two frames forward
00:02:31
just to have it zoom out a little bit more.
00:02:34
Let's do 108
00:02:35
and then to make it more smooth
00:02:37
we can lasso and select
00:02:38
these keyframes
00:02:39
and control click and select is in or
00:02:42
you can right click
00:02:43
and this one we can ease out.
00:02:45
So now when we play it back,
00:02:46
it looks really cool.
00:02:47
It's a very subtle zoom out with a blur
00:02:50
just like that. It's very simple, but it's effective.
00:02:52
And when we add sound effects later
00:02:54
in the video,
00:02:55
it's really going to come to life.
00:02:56
Now we can copy and paste these effects
00:03:00
that we added so we can press command or control
00:03:03
to select both of the effects,
00:03:04
press, command, see or control
00:03:06
see to copy them.
00:03:07
Then we can go to the next photo
00:03:09
that we want to apply this effect to.
00:03:11
Let's see the third one here
00:03:13
and we can go up to effect controls, move
00:03:15
to play head the beginning.
00:03:17
Make sure you have this window selected
00:03:19
and then command V to paste it.
00:03:22
And now it's applied to this photo
00:03:25
and remember I said I would explain this.
00:03:27
The reason
00:03:28
why we applied
00:03:29
the keyframe animation
00:03:30
to the scale
00:03:31
of the transform effect
00:03:33
and not add the regular motion controls
00:03:36
is that way. If we ever want
00:03:37
to make any changes to the scale
00:03:39
or the position,
00:03:40
it won't screw up
00:03:41
the keyframes that we had.
00:03:42
So we can go up here.
00:03:43
And if we want to zoom out a little bit
00:03:45
here, let's say down to like 32.
00:03:48
It's not going to mess up
00:03:50
the animation that we did down here.
00:03:52
And we can always make some adjustments
00:03:54
and you can repeat the same process
00:03:55
to every photo.
00:03:57
So now we have this really cool
00:03:58
slideshow effect
00:03:59
and it's really subtle to do.
00:04:01
And the next thing we need to do
00:04:03
is add some sound effects
00:04:04
And by the way,
00:04:05
my name is Kelsey
00:04:06
and welcome back to Gal.

00:04:48
background music,
00:04:49
some like lo
00:04:50
fi indie tracks that go well with voice
00:04:53
I've put together a playlist.
00:04:55
If you just go to Epidemic and you search
00:04:57
Premiere Gal, you'll find my Premiere
00:04:58
Gal editing Essentials playlist
00:05:01
and it has some great tracks
00:05:03
to help you get started.
00:05:04
So use my link below to get 30 days free.
00:05:07
And now I'm going to show you
00:05:08
how to use some of their sound effects
00:05:09
to spice up the slideshow effect.
00:05:12
So between the two slides here,
00:05:14
I want to have a projector slide.
00:05:16
So if you go to Epidemic Sound,
00:05:18
you can see that there's music
00:05:19
and then there's sound effects.
00:05:20
Of course
00:05:21
you can browse
00:05:22
by their featured
00:05:23
sound effects
00:05:24
as well as by category down here,
00:05:27
but you can also just go to search.
00:05:29
And from sound effects
00:05:31
we can search for projector
00:05:33
and it will bring up
00:05:34
a bunch of different
00:05:36
sounds that we can play and try out.
00:05:37
So we can try. Projector, screen one
00:05:41
projector screen two.
00:05:44
It's not really what I need.
00:05:45
Let's try this.
00:05:46
That's a nice slide.
00:05:48
Sound effect.
00:05:49
And also,
00:05:50
if you want some ambiance
00:05:51
behind the slide, sound effect,
00:05:53
for example,
00:05:54
if a machine is just playing some slides,
00:05:57
this slide projector eight
00:06:00
is just a nice background noise.
00:06:02
That you can add to your video.
00:06:05
So we can go ahead and download these.
00:06:08
And once they're downloaded,
00:06:09
you can import them into Premiere Pro's
00:06:12
Project Panel.
00:06:13
You can see I've already done that.
00:06:15
So then we can just drag
00:06:16
and drop these effects into the timeline.
00:06:18
So slide show
00:06:19
projector 14 as the slide show effect
00:06:22
So I can zoom in here
00:06:24
and just place this at the cut point.
00:06:28
I can press option to duplicate that and
00:06:30
just repeat that
00:06:34
Great. And then we can
00:06:35
take the slide show
00:06:36
projector eight drag
00:06:38
and drop it down there.
00:06:39
See and cut at the end and delete
00:06:42
that access.
00:06:43
Play around with the level
00:06:44
and let's see how this sound
00:06:53
And look at that just to sound effects.
00:06:55
And already it's feeling
00:06:57
more like a projector
00:06:59
screen, like a real life one.
00:07:01
And you can add some music from Epidemic
00:07:03
if you want to bring it to life.
00:07:04
So if you're looking for a quick way
00:07:06
to do the slide, show effect
00:07:08
on multiple different resolutions.
00:07:10
Let's say you want to do portrait
00:07:11
vertical storage, square 4K intensity,
00:07:15
and you don't want to build it
00:07:16
all from scratch.
00:07:17
I've put together a photo
00:07:18
slide show
00:07:19
creator template
00:07:20
that's on sale on my website
00:07:22
and it has
00:07:23
for other different types of transitions.
00:07:25
So if you just don't want the Zoom
00:07:26
Blur transition,
00:07:27
I also added,
00:07:28
you know,
00:07:29
swipe left, swipe right up and down.
00:07:32
And it's really easy to use
00:07:33
as just drag
00:07:34
and drop in your own videos or photos.
00:07:36
And you can use it. Let me just quickly
00:07:37
show you how it works.
00:07:38
Once you download and purchase the pack,
00:07:41
you will see here that you can import your own footage
00:07:43
so I can go in
00:07:44
and just take some of my photos here.
00:07:48
And let's say
00:07:49
that you wanted to use the portrait.
00:07:52
You can go into the slideshow.
00:07:54
So let's say we want the swipe done
00:07:56
and see what this looks like.
00:08:01
If you want
00:08:02
to update these to your own photos,
00:08:04
we can then just go ahead.
00:08:05
And for example,
00:08:06
this placeholder,
00:08:07
you can double click
00:08:08
on the first placeholder
00:08:09
and drag and drop in your own photos.
00:08:12
Replace this with some dogs here.
00:08:15
So if you want to add this
00:08:16
French bulldog.
00:08:17
Go ahead, drag that and go up to effects
00:08:20
and scale it into place.
00:08:23
And then when we go back to the portrait,
00:08:26
you can see that that
00:08:29
photo has been replaced just like that.
00:08:31
And you'll notice
00:08:32
that there's a film crop.
00:08:33
You can just turn off the visibility
00:08:35
if you don't want that.
00:08:36
And there's a portrait color
00:08:38
adjustment layer that you can turn off
00:08:39
if you want the original
00:08:41
style of the photo.
00:08:42
And there's some light leaks as well
00:08:44
that you'll see
00:08:46
that you can turn off as well
00:08:47
that are generated
00:08:49
And again, underneath edit
00:08:50
you'll find the same exact sequences
00:08:53
for HD, 4K, Portrait Square and vertical
00:08:58
and there's two different types.
00:09:00
So there's the classic,
00:09:03
which is that zoom blur effect.
00:09:05
And then there's the swipe effect,
00:09:08
which goes up or down just like that.
00:09:11
And you can move around
00:09:13
so you can take any of these
00:09:15
and change it. For example,
00:09:16
you can go down to the swipe transitions
00:09:19
and if you want it
00:09:20
to swipe left, for example,
00:09:22
you can go down here
00:09:24
and this is vertical.
00:09:25
So you can go into vertical
00:09:27
and you can take
00:09:29
you can open this up
00:09:30
and then you can copy this transition,
00:09:32
go back to vertical
00:09:34
and you know, make sure you're on video
00:09:36
layer two. When you piece this,
00:09:37
you can literally delete that command V
00:09:41
to paste that transition in.
00:09:43
Now, after you press enter to
00:09:45
render it out very quickly, you will see
00:09:49
it's a swipe left transition so you can,
00:09:52
you know, modify
00:09:53
which direction
00:09:54
you want the swipes to go.
00:09:56
And one more thing I wanted to mention.
00:09:58
Let's say you already have a premiere pro
00:09:59
product file open
00:10:00
and you want to import the template
00:10:02
into the Premiere Pro Project.
00:10:04
What you can do is just drag and drop the file.
00:10:06
So here I have the download
00:10:08
you will see here the premiere pro project file.
00:10:10
Just drag
00:10:11
and drop it into the project panel
00:10:14
and then I will ask you
00:10:15
to import the entire project
00:10:17
and you can create
00:10:18
a folder
00:10:19
for the imported items
00:10:20
and allow for duplicate media press.
00:10:22
Okay.
00:10:23
And then you will see
00:10:24
all of the same folders here
00:10:27
that you can open up and reuse.
00:10:29
And you can
00:10:30
import this part of the file
00:10:32
as many times as you want.
00:10:33
If you want to create new sequences
00:10:35
with new media, for example,
00:10:38
And the sound effects are included.
00:10:40
So the media that's included in this
00:10:42
template is in the public domain.
00:10:44
So all of these archival
00:10:45
photos of bananas
00:10:47
are included in the template.
00:10:48
So that way, you know,
00:10:49
which placeholders are where in
00:10:51
you can just replace those images
00:10:53
with your own photos.
00:10:55
So definitely go check that out.
00:10:56
Go to PremiereGal.com/Store
00:10:58
to purchase the slideshow pack.
00:11:01
And any time that there's an update,
00:11:04
you will get that update
00:11:05
after you purchase that
00:11:06
and you can use it in any type of video.
00:11:08
So yeah, that's it for today's video.
00:11:10
I really hope that this slideshow
00:11:11
effect helps you out.
00:11:13
It's going to be great
00:11:14
for documentary films,
00:11:16
for weddings,
00:11:17
for just sharing personal stories, too.
00:11:19
Thanks again to Epidemic Sound
00:11:21
for sponsoring today's video.
