game plus and i have to be playing on00:02:27

now that that's out of the way let's get00:02:34

after watching the opening i get to the00:02:43

choose new game choose very hard as the00:02:46
difficulty and then get to the velvet00:02:48
room where i am introduced to igor along00:02:50
with his assistant00:02:51
margaret i wake up on the train get off00:02:54
to meet dojima and nanako00:02:56
and then get another dream sequence with00:02:58
our first scripted battle00:03:00
after that we go to school and meet00:03:02
three of our main cast members00:03:04
chie yukiko and yosuke where they tell00:03:06
us about the midnight channel00:03:08
which is a secret channel where if you00:03:10
turn on your tv on a rainy night00:03:12
you'll see your soulmate so being the00:03:15
naive teenager that we are we decide to00:03:17
check it out and we almost get sucked00:03:19
into the tv00:03:25
are you okay so the next day we go to00:03:28
june s to try it with some bigger tvs00:03:30
and the same thing happens we wind up in00:03:32
the tv world where we meet00:03:38

shows us the way out what's going on00:03:54
the next morning we wake up and find out00:03:56
that yosuke's girlfriend has been found00:03:59
dead so we decide to go back to the tv00:04:01
world to investigate and get our first00:04:03
real battle now i know with my editing00:04:06
it doesn't seem like it's very long00:04:08
but one of my biggest pet peeves with00:04:10
this game is how long the intro is00:04:12
i mean i've been playing for almost two00:04:14
hours and not until now do i finally get00:04:16
a non-scripted fight00:04:18
but yeah these enemies are weak to00:04:20
electricity which izanagi specializes in00:04:23
so it's no problem we then get to the next00:04:28
area where we see yosuke shadow and00:04:30
yosuke denies it's him by saying you're00:04:33
not me00:04:35
that's right say it again you're not me00:04:40
you're nothing like me yeah get used to00:04:43
the character saying that00:04:45
but anyway he evolves into a boss and00:04:47
now00:04:48
we gotta beat it so this boss is00:04:50
actually pretty easy as long as you know00:04:52
what you're doing00:04:53
just spam zeo guard when he does and00:04:55
then heal when your health gets low00:04:57
unfortunately i underestimate how much00:04:59
damage he can do the first time and he00:05:01
kills me so i gotta watch the cut scenes00:05:03
again and do the tutorial battle again00:05:05
but after this i'm able to beat him with00:05:06
ease and then izanagi levels up00:05:09
after yosuke accepts the shadow he gets00:05:11
his persona and then we go back00:05:13
then the next day we start the magician00:05:15
social link with yosuke00:05:17
after that we tune into the midnight00:05:18
channel to see our friend yukiko on00:05:20
screen and it turns out she's missing so00:05:23
back to the tv world to find her we get00:05:25
to her dungeon and now we can actually00:05:27
start upgrading izanagi now i should00:05:30
also take this time to point out that00:05:32
izanagi is by default a much better00:05:35
persona than orpheus00:05:36
orpheus had two weaknesses and no00:05:38
resistance however izanagi only has00:05:40
one weakness and is resistant to00:05:42
electricity while also being completely00:05:45
immune to darkness00:05:46
so that's less weaknesses to worry about00:05:48
but other than that this challenge is00:05:50
pretty much gonna be the same way00:05:52
we'll have to upgrade izanagi's stats00:05:54
while also updating his skill set by00:05:55
using skill cards00:05:57
now even though we'll be doing a lot of00:05:59
the same stuff that we were doing in the00:06:01
orpheus only run00:06:02
the way we go about doing most of them00:06:04
is completely different00:06:06
pretty much everything from skill cards00:06:08
to stat increases in persona 4 is done00:06:10
in shuffle time00:06:11
if you remember this from persona 3 you00:06:13
should know that it happens at the end00:06:15
of some battles where cards are shuffled00:06:17
and then you get to choose one00:06:18
these cards may contain a persona or an00:06:20
increase in money or exp00:06:22
or heal you however in golden there are00:06:25
many more cards available00:06:27
you can get cards that increase your00:06:28
persona stats give you skill cards and00:06:30
in rare cases level up your persona or00:06:33
upgrade a skill00:06:34
but not only that in golden there are00:06:36
also some cards that have negative00:06:38
effects but give you more draws00:06:40
if you literally play your cards right00:06:42
and get all the cards00:06:43
you get what's called a sweet bonus00:06:45
which guarantees you'll be getting00:06:47
shuffle time at the end of the next00:06:48
battle00:06:49
and it gives you two additional draws00:06:52
this makes it really easy to get all the00:06:54
cards and you can just keep getting00:06:55
sweet bonus after sweet bonus and00:06:57
getting all the bonuses that are00:06:58
included00:06:59
so yeah i think it goes without saying00:07:02
but we're gonna be spending a lot of00:07:04
time in shuffle time00:07:05
but anyway we go through the first floor00:07:07
of the dungeon and on the second one we00:07:09
see chie00:07:10
and it's pretty much the same deal with00:07:12
yosuke she denies the shadow so now we00:07:14
gotta fight it00:07:17
so this boss isn't particularly hard00:07:20
either but with00:07:21
only two party members it's kinda slow00:07:25
so the biggest issue with this boss is00:07:28
that it has mozilla which is yosuke's00:07:30
weakness00:07:31
sometimes the game will say she'll look00:07:32
scornfully at yosuke which means that00:07:34
she's gonna use mozillo the next turn00:07:36
so whenever this happens i have to00:07:38
defend with yosuke but sometimes she00:07:40
just goes ahead and uses mozilla without00:07:42
warning00:07:43
she also has green wall which makes her00:07:45
resistant to wind00:07:46
which covers her weakness and that makes00:07:48
things even slower00:07:50
basically the strategy for this fight is00:07:52
to knock her down with garu when green00:07:54
wall isn't active and then just defend00:07:56
and hit her with whatever we can while00:07:58
it is active00:07:59
we also don't have many options for00:08:01
healing so a lot of yosuke's turns that00:08:03
he's not defending are spent using his00:08:05
dia00:08:06
but despite all this this boss doesn't00:08:08
actually give us too much trouble we're00:08:10
able to beat it on our first try00:08:13

after that chie awakens and with her we00:08:26
form the investigation team which starts00:08:28
the full social link00:08:29
after that we head out and then start00:08:31
the chariot social link with chie00:08:33
now this is the point in the game where00:08:35
the game finally gives us free time and00:08:37

that is provided there's anything to do00:08:41
and here there's really not much to do00:08:43
other than go back into the tv to save00:08:45

now just like persona 3 you can pretty00:08:49
much complete any dungeon in one run00:08:51
unless the game requires otherwise so00:08:53

in pretty much every dungeon00:08:56
though with my limited sp at this point00:08:59

i'm not so confident that i'll be able00:09:02

once i'm back in the dungeon that things00:09:04

a tarun to skill card which is great00:09:09
until a shadow catches me off guard and00:09:11
kills me in one hit00:09:12
making me lose all my progress00:09:16
so anyway i go through the dungeon again00:09:19
and i get the patra00:09:20
mewtwody and sukukaja skill cards but00:09:23
then00:09:24
i decide to head back after the fifth00:09:25
floor because by this time i'm clean out00:09:28
of sp and healing items and there's really00:09:30
nothing i can use at this point00:09:32
i do go back the next day and it's more00:09:34
the same i gotta fight a mini00:09:36
boss which isn't hard but you know00:09:38
taruno would have been real helpful00:09:40
during this fight00:09:41
but most of this part is just me running00:09:43
around from enemies that are too strong00:09:45
because i don't have anything that00:09:46
covers their weakness which i00:09:48
kind of need so that i can get that00:09:49
guaranteed shuffle time00:09:51
but eventually i do get to the end where00:09:53
yukiko is but again00:09:55
i'm drained of spn items so i decide not00:09:57
to do it but i do go back to the first00:09:59
floor to do some grinding during which00:10:01
time i get the aagi00:10:02
sukunda and dia skill cards other than00:10:06
that nothing really happens other than me00:10:09
just getting a whole bunch of stat00:10:10
bonuses00:10:11
and also a whole bunch of skill cards00:10:13
that i don't want00:10:14
however in addition to the skill and00:10:16
point cards00:10:17
there are also cards that restore your00:10:19
hp and sp00:10:20
so by doing this i'm actually able to00:10:23
get back up to a pretty decent amount of00:10:25
sp so now that i have my sp back00:10:29
i actually do decide to go and challenge00:10:31
shadow yukiko00:10:32
now the thing about bosses in this game00:10:35
as you may have already noticed from the00:10:37
fight against shadow chie00:10:38
is that they're not really that hard00:10:41
they're just00:10:42
spongy like they take forever to kill00:10:44
and in most cases they don't use their00:10:46
strongest moves until they're low on hp00:10:49
now yukiko's shadow specializes in fire00:10:52
attacks and is weak to chiefs bufo00:10:55
but she also has white wall which makes00:10:57
her resistant to ice so really00:11:00
all you can do when this is up is just00:11:02
use physical moves00:11:03
her attacks aren't strong and chie also00:11:05
has dodge fire thanks to her accessory00:11:08
but midway through the fight she'll start00:11:10
using terror voice which makes a target00:11:12
fearful00:11:13
and usually follows this up with00:11:15
shivering rondo which can00:11:16
easily kill you in one hit she also00:11:19
summons a minion called charming prince00:11:21
which also casts00:11:22
fear and can heal her which is pretty00:11:24
annoying but her main attack is burnt to00:11:27
ashes a00:11:28
fire attack that hits everyone normally00:11:30
she gives a warning before using it so00:11:32
you can guard but close to the end she00:11:34
doesn't and kills everyone in my party except00:11:36
for you00:11:38
after that i heal and she uses terror00:11:40
voice and then shivering rondo00:11:42
but at this point izanagi's endurance is00:11:44
so high that you just takes it like an00:11:46
absolute boss00:11:47
and from there i'm able to revive chie00:11:50
and yosuke and then finish her off not00:11:52
long after00:11:56

once the fight is over yukiko accepts00:12:04
her shadow awakens to her persona00:12:07
and that concludes the first dungeon00:12:09
after this00:12:10
it's pretty much our free time to do00:12:11
whatever we want one thing to keep in00:12:13
mind about persona 4 is that it's not00:12:15
as lenient with free time as persona 300:12:18
social links are harder to rank up and00:12:20
may or may not be available depending on00:12:22
the weather00:12:23
on rainy days most people won't be00:12:24
available so on those days you're best00:12:26
off just working on your stats or00:12:28
grinding00:12:29
oh and also one thing that's cool about00:12:31
golden is that if you click on this00:12:32
little bubble00:12:33
you can see what other people did which00:12:35
is pretty cool though i don't actually00:12:37
recommend00:12:38
doing what it says most of the time at00:12:40

i'm mostly just focusing on leveling up00:12:44

all of which is done in your room the00:12:47
only new social links i start during00:12:49
this period are the aeon with marie00:12:51
the justice with nautica and the hermit00:12:53
with the fox00:12:54
the thing is there's really not much i00:12:56
can do at this point00:12:58
unlike iwatodi where there was lots of00:13:00
stuff to do in the city in inaba there's00:13:02
really not much to do other than just00:13:05
talk to npcs00:13:06

we find out that exams are coming up so00:13:17
i decided to spend most of my time00:13:19
studying before long we see kanji on the00:13:21
midnight channel and after staking him00:13:23
out00:13:24
talking to a very feminine looking boy00:13:26
and starting yukiko's social inc00:13:28
we see him again and confirm that he is00:13:31
indeed the next victim so it's back to00:13:33
the tv world to save him00:13:34
now once i get to kanji's dungeon i find00:13:37
out that i am00:13:38
extremely under leveled thankfully00:13:40
though the enemies aren't that strong00:13:42
and chie's galactic punt00:13:43
definitely helps along with twin dragons00:13:46
but00:13:47
in most cases it's not enough to kill00:13:49
them all in one turn00:13:50
so i grind till level 14. during which00:13:53
time i get really lucky and get the00:13:55
absolutely essential skill card for apt00:13:58
pupil00:13:59
this makes normally difficult encounters00:14:01
much easier with critical hit knockdowns00:14:03
and then after that i get the sonic00:14:05
punch skill card so i can finally get00:14:07
rid of cleve00:14:08
and i also take every stat increase card00:14:10
i find00:14:11
now the mid boss is one of many strong00:14:14
physical tanky bosses he uses power00:14:16
charge00:14:17
rebellion and tarukaja but he also has00:14:19
really low agility00:14:21
after i use secunda on him he can't00:14:23
touch me and i beat him without a whole00:14:25
lot of trouble00:14:28
after this i continue through the00:14:30
dungeon some more until i get low on mp00:14:32
after which i go to yukiko's castle to00:14:34
grind some more00:14:35
now you may be wondering why i'm00:14:37
grinding in such a low level area and00:14:39
this is because despite me being super over00:14:42
leveled in this area00:14:43
the cards that i get from beating the00:14:45
enemies are the same and the hp and np00:14:47
restoring cards are based on a00:14:49
percentage not a set value00:14:51
so by beating enemies in a low level00:14:53
area i can basically farm for unlimited00:14:55
mp and stat bonuses with minimal effort00:14:58
during this time i get the tyrone to00:14:59
skill card and once i head back00:15:01
i get the dodge win skill card and then00:15:03
the single shot skill card which is even00:15:05
better than sonic punch00:15:07
before long i do make it to the end of00:15:09
kanji's dungeon but00:15:10
at this point i'm basically burnt out00:15:12
with this dungeon and i also want to00:15:14
upgrade items before i challenge the00:15:16
boss so i go home upgrade items and then come00:15:19
back the next day00:15:21
so the way the fight against shadow00:15:23
kanji works is that he has two minions00:15:25
the nice guy who is weak to fire and the00:15:27
tough guy who is weak to ice00:15:29
the tough guy uses just physical attacks00:15:31
while the nice guy likes to use buffs00:15:33
and heal so i recommend going for the nice guy00:15:35
first now00:15:37
the main body itself specializes in00:15:39
electric attacks and ailment attacks00:15:41
those two ailment attacks being roar of00:15:43
wrath which enrages chie and yukiko and00:15:45
forbidden murmur which poisons you and00:15:48
yosuke he likes to spam these pretty much every00:15:50
turn so unless you want to spend a crazy00:15:52
amount of money on ailment healing items00:15:54
i don't think healing these ailments is00:15:56
worth it you're better off just living00:15:58
with the poison and waiting for the rage00:15:59
to wear off00:16:00
like most bosses in this game it's not00:16:03
that strong the minions00:16:04
may give you some trouble but once00:16:06
they're gone this fight is a breeze00:16:09
now the boss's trump card is fanatical00:16:11
spark which is a strong electric move00:16:13
but it's resisted by izanagi and yosuke00:16:16
can't do that much damage anyway so i00:16:18
recommend just defending with him00:16:20
my strategy for this fight is to beat00:16:22
the minions first debuff the main body00:16:24
heal with yukiko when necessary and just00:16:26
keep repeating00:16:28
he does take down a few of our party00:16:30
members but not you thankfully because00:16:32
of his insanely high endurance and00:16:34
overall this fight is pretty easy this00:16:36
boss goes down00:16:37
after about 20 minutes00:16:52
after that kanji awakens and the day is00:16:55
saved and now we just have to wait for00:16:57
him to recover and we're pretty much00:16:58
free until then00:16:59
during this period i do start the00:17:01
empress social link with margaret and00:17:03
the jester with adachi though00:17:05
for now i'm mostly going to be focusing00:17:07
on the party members since it actually00:17:09
gives them abilities that they can use00:17:11
in battle00:17:12
eventually the fog does come in and00:17:13
nobody appears on the tv meaning the00:17:15
perpetrator has been thwarted once again00:17:18
and kanji joins our party but that00:17:21
doesn't mean we're done with the tv00:17:22
world just yet00:17:24
i go back a few days later to the tv00:17:26
world to grind and beat the optional00:17:27
bosses00:17:28
yeah after you beat the main boss of a00:17:30
dungeon you can go back a few days later00:17:32
and an optional boss will be there00:17:34
and if you beat it you get courage00:17:36
points and an item00:17:37
i remember these bosses being really00:17:40
hard when i played this game as a kid00:17:41
but i also had less experience with mega00:17:44
10 back backman so00:17:45
let's see how bad these are well the00:17:48
boss at yukiko's palace certainly isn't00:17:50
hard it's only strong move is rampage00:17:53
and the boss of kanji's dungeon is a00:17:55
little harder it has some elemental00:17:57
attacks and some physical moves and it00:17:59
keeps targeting yukiko with bufula00:18:01
and it even kills her a few times but it00:18:04
is also weak to electricity so i just00:18:06
spam that while keeping its attack down00:18:08
with tarunda and it goes down without00:18:10
too many problems00:18:12
a few days after that we get access to00:18:14
the motor scooter00:18:15
now this thing lets us drive around to00:18:17
unlock new places and once we drive00:18:19
around three times we get access to00:18:21
okina city which has a place called00:18:23
chagall cafe00:18:24
now remember what i said in the00:18:26
beginning about being able to get skill00:18:27
cards from personas00:18:29
well in chagall cafe you can spend 5 00000:18:32
yen and walter white here will give you00:18:34
his special coffee which will knock you00:18:36
out and give you a skill card00:18:38
you know that skill card icon that's00:18:39
next to some skills on personas00:18:41
that's the skill card that you're gonna00:18:43
get from your persona if you do this00:18:45
this is how i'm going to be getting00:18:46
skill cards from personas00:18:49
at least that's what i would be saying00:18:52
but right at this moment i realized that in00:18:54
order to get the skill00:18:56
card you actually need to have that00:18:58
persona equipped00:18:59
and that would be breaking the rules i00:19:02
mean i suppose i could make an exception for00:19:04
this since it's not in battle which is00:19:06

but at the same time i feel like so far00:19:10
this challenge has been much easier than00:19:12
i was expecting00:19:13
and i i do want to keep things00:19:15
interesting and00:19:16
also the whole randomness factor to it00:19:18
all kind of makes it more fun so00:19:20
for now i think i'm going to ban the use00:19:23
of chagall cafe00:19:24
however this also makes doing most00:19:27
non-party social links00:19:28
kind of pointless i'm still going to do00:19:30
them for story reasons and also marie so00:19:32
i can get her dungeon00:19:34
but i'm not going to be sweating over00:19:36
getting the right answers to them every00:19:37
time and i'm gonna prioritize party00:19:40
members social links00:19:41
since it gets them skills and abilities00:19:43
that i can actually use00:19:45
anyway after a failed attempt to pick up00:19:47
girls and a camping trip later00:19:48
we max out yosuke's social inc and he00:19:51
awakens to his ultimate persona00:19:53
after that we get back in the swing of00:19:55
things and we suspect that the next00:19:57
victim is going to be ryse kujikawa00:19:59
a few days later our suspicions are00:20:02
confirmed00:20:03
so we gather info and go to her dungeon00:20:05
which00:20:06
is one of my favorites in this game when00:20:08
we get here it's00:20:10
basically the same deal as kanji's00:20:11
dungeon where the enemies are00:20:13
super over leveled though they're still00:20:16
pretty easy and most are weight to electricity they00:20:19
don't actually become a challenge until00:20:20
about the 7th or 8th floor00:20:22
now one thing that's cool about this00:20:24
dungeon is that this is where i start00:20:26
getting magician arcana cards00:20:29
these are the cards that upgrade your00:20:30
skills aki becomes muragi and tarunda00:20:33
becomes00:20:34
matarunda through doing this i also get00:20:36
a few decent skill cards from the sword00:20:38
cards like dodge fizz muhammad and00:20:40
mamudo but most of it is just ailment00:20:42
skills and support skills that i don't00:20:44
need00:20:45
eventually i make it to the end and then00:20:47
i decide to grind00:20:48
i take every stat boost i find in every00:20:50
emperor and magician skill card during00:20:52
this time the new skills i get are evade00:20:54
wind00:20:55
power slash maracunda and masukunda00:20:58
but the best thing i get though without00:21:00
doubt is the patient00:21:02
caller which contains endure an absolute00:21:05
godsend since i can't get endure from00:21:07
shuffle time sword cards00:21:09
after doing enough grinding i come back00:21:11
the next day to challenge her00:21:14
no don't say it you're00:21:18
not me i'm finally myself00:21:22

as for this boss there's really not a00:21:30

it has all elemental attacks all the00:21:33
brake skills and mind slice and spirit00:21:35

sponge this fight00:21:43
pretty much goes normally until she uses00:21:45
supreme analysis which prevents us from00:21:47

defeat this boss because risa accepts00:21:53
her shadow before we can actually beat00:21:55

everybody not to deny the shadow does00:22:12

the first thing you'll notice is that it00:57:52
takes away all of your items including00:57:54

and the next thing you'll notice is that00:57:57
on certain floors including the first00:57:59

there aren't any shadows crawling around00:58:02
to get around in this dungeon you have00:58:04
to cut these ropes00:58:05
doing this has a chance to send you into00:58:07
battle with a shadow but most important00:58:09
of all is that your sp is halved after every00:58:12
battle the idea of this dungeon is that00:58:14
throughout it you'll find00:58:15
equipment and armor that you'll only00:58:16
have access to in this dungeon00:58:18
some of it voids your weaknesses and00:58:20
some of it will restore your sp every00:58:22

so you gotta have to use what the game00:58:25
