Розташоване воно на висоті 989 м над рівнем моря. Його ще називають морським оком терез те що посередині озера знаходиться немов зінниця ока невеликий острівель. Дістатись цього острівся можна на дерев'яному плоті, який одночасно може перевезти до 10 осіб. Весною острівець затоплений через те що в горах тануть сніги і стікають до озера. Площа Синевиру становить приблизно 4-5 га, глибина озера – в середньому 8-10 м. Проте, місцями найбільші глибини Синевиру сягають до 19,5 м. Це навіть більше, ніж в Азовському морі, найглибше місце якого – 14 м. Нажаль купатись тут заборонено, тай саме озеро не є дуже теплим, максимальна температура до якої прогрівається вода становить 13 градусів. Кілька сотень років тому місцеві гори були у володінні у одного графа. Також у графа була дуже красива дочка яку звали Синь. Звали її так через неймовірно блакитні очі. Одного разу дівчина прогулювалася схилами і, збираючи квіти, побачила прекрасного молодого хлопця на ім'я Вир. Пара відразу сподобалася одне одному, і вони закохалися. Дізнавшись про це, граф розпорядився вбити простого хлопця за любов до його дочки. З тих пір Синь оплакувала Вира, проливаючи сльози безперервно. Так і утворилося кристально чисте озеро Синевир. Насправді Озеро утворилося внаслідок перекриття гірського потоку кам'янистими породами після землетрусу близько 10 тисяч років тому. На території озера Синевир височить скульптурна композиція "Синь та Вир" , що вирізнана з червоного дерева махагон. Висота цього монумента становить 13 метрів, а вага близько 30 тон. Озеро вважається найцікавішим об'єктом Національного природного парку «Синевир» і є однією з візитних карток Українських Карпат. Тайож воно входить в топ 7 природних чудес України.
