Wide of people clapping at end of news conference STORYLINE The one-day BRIC summit concluded in Brasilia on Thursday, with the signing of an agreement which will deepen cooperation among the four member countries'' development banks. The BRIC nations - Brazil, China, India and Russia - are looking to deepen their trade ties and are calling for a bigger role in major global financial decisions, primarily within institutions such as the International Monetary Fund. Outlining details to the media, summit host Brazil''s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said the agreement would allow the four to increase investment in various infrastructure projects and strengthen ties. Speaking at the news conference, da Silva''s counterparts, China''s President Hu Jintao, Indian Premier Manmohan Singh, and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev welcomed Thursday''s outcome. Following a bilateral meeting earlier in the day with Hu, Silva said that because of the economic advances of Brazil and China, "We have the means, and obligation, really, of fighting for a different financial order." The leaders agreed to hold the next BRIC summit in China next year. The summit was cut short because President Hu said he would return home early due to earthquakes that killed at least 600 people, cancelling visits to Venezuela and Chile. During Thursday''s meetings, da Silva also met with Hu and Singh on the sidelines of the summit to discuss ways to find a peaceful solution to international concern about Iran''s development of nuclear energy. Brazil''s foreign minister said there was an "affinity" between Brazil''s opposition to new sanctions on Iran and the positions of China and India. Brazil has increased its political and economic ties to Iran in the past year while frequently criticising efforts to impose sanctions over its nuclear programme. The US and its allies accuse Iran of seeking to build a nuclear weapon, a claim Iran denies.
