Located in the centre of Shanghai, it is a leisure and pedestrian street based on the unique old Shikumen lane building area of Shanghai. The overall planning retains most of the Shikumen buildings in the northern part of the site and intersperses some modern buildings. Strolling here, you will feel like you are in the Shanghai of the 1920s and 1930s. The Shanghai Xintiandi project, with a total investment of about US$150 million, relocated more than 2,300 households and 8,000 residents from the site at a cost of more than RMB 600 million (about US$75 million), and was created by American architect Benjamin Wood, in collaboration with a Singaporean architectural firm and the Architectural Design Institute of Tongji University. People's Park is also a place for locals to relax and unwind. It is a place where not only the neighbourhood office workers take their lunch breaks, but also many local residents, and a good place for the elderly to spend their time.
