In this story, Tyler, in 6th grade, weighs the risks of letting his "real self" shine through in front of all the new people at middle school, and then finds he has no choice but to leave it all out there on the dance floor. Tyler hears the announcement that there will be a school dance and decides he needs to go. He has some new and old friends as a 6th grader but he's still been laying low and keeping to himself since beginning middle school. The worst thing you can do in middle school is get targeted negatively, especially in the first month. He did not want 3 years of bullying, being made fun of, getting beat up or being hated on. So he kept to himself and waiting things out. To be bullied or be targeting by mean girls of bully boys was not an option for him. As the weeks went by, he decided to just try and be himself and the night of the dance, he got ready, had his mom drive him to school and met his friends. They had a great time and the party, laughing, joking and eating pizza. Then he saw a sign that was a sign up for the dance contest. He though to himself. "Could this be my opportunity to make a good name for myself? Get kids to know me, the REAL me who is outgoing, funny, crazy and good dancer?" It struggled with the decision but finally said to himself, "I'll do it and signed up." It was a middle school dance battle. While he was waiting for his turn, he almost backed out of it and just as he was about to, they called his name and of his friend..... He got really nervous and afraid to fail, to make a fool of himself or embarrass himself, with all students in the school looking at him. Watch him Whip and watch him Nae Nae with his friend in front whole school of kids, friends, students and teachers. But ultimately, in the dance contest, he danced his ass off, overcoming the fear of embarrassment. And then a magical think happened....He crushed it. The kids and teachers cheered and he and his best friend won the dance contest. And afterwards all these kids he did not know came up to him and started talking with him. Dancing can be so much fun and middle school is where it all happened for Tyler He want from a crazy idea, to nervous, to scared to "go time", to winning. Was he lit? Who knows, he's a 6th grader, but now he is no longer afraid to dance in front of people and happy. This is a storytime that that proves that sometimes, just dance.
