To celebrate the classic creation of Rod Serling, we wanted to look at the influence of The Twilight Zone in the second dimension: Animation. That’s why today’s video is all about The Simpsons Twilight Zone references. When it comes to The Simpsons references and The Simpsons parody, the show’s greatest showcase has always been The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. The amount of Twilight Zone references in Simpsons is staggering, and in the early days of The Simpsons Halloween special, they borrowed judiciously from the scary, spooky, classic television mystery series: The Twilight Zone. When Bart, Lisa, Homer, Marge, Maggie and the rest of Springfield enter The Twilight Zone, one thing is for certain on the legendary Fox animated TV show: The Simpsons are at the top of their game. The legendary Twilight Zone Episode To Serve Man was the basis of a Simpsons parody that introduced the aliens Kang and Kodos, while a later segment called Bart’s Nightmare referenced the classic episode It’s A Good Life. Nightmare at 20,000 feet, starring the incomparable William Shatner as a man who sees a gremlin on the wing of a plane, was the basis for another awesome The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror segment called Terror at 5 ½ feet, just like The Little People inspired The Genesis Tub. Homer3 introduced The Simpsons to computer animation just weeks before Toy Story changed the world of animation forever, but it too was just a Simpsons reference, one of many Simpsons Twilight Zone references, based on an episode called Little Girl Lost. Halloween only comes once a year, but The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror are some of the funniest, most entertaining Simpsons episodes out there, and they’re great all year round, and never more so than when they’re influenced by The Twilight Zone.
