The Ipanemas are Wilson Des Neves and Neco, two legendary Brazilian musicians from classic 60s Brazilia. 40 years later and they're back once again with a whole new chapter: 'Afro Bossa'. Introducao: Wilson and Neco were brought up listening to Samba Cancao ('the music of the poor'). Developing their styles around Bossa Nova, they were soon coined the masters of the 'new samba' and were snapped up by the likes of Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Baden Powell and recorded with such luminaries. In 1962 Wilson and Neco were invited to record their own album by CBS and created Afro Samba. The Ipanemas eponymous debut album featured both their own compositions as well as covers. To this day it sounds like no other Bossa Nova album because of its combination of African rhythms, jazz instrumentation and spiritual funk.
