the two zero zero four code and the two

zero zero nine code and they're pretty

much related so we're gonna go ahead and

pop the hood here and see what's going

on now there is an engine cover that
00:00:24
we're gonna have to take off and luckily
00:00:25
it comes off very easily you just have
00:00:27
to pop it right off now the two codes
00:00:29
that we have are from a system that's
00:00:31
designed to give you maximum power but
00:00:33
at the same time miles per gallon and
00:00:35
the way this works is it kind of works

like your throttle body where it has a
00:00:39
butterfly plate that's inside of your
00:00:41
intake manifold and that's all vacuum
00:00:43
controlled so there's a hose or a tube
00:00:46
that's coming out of your manifold if
00:00:47
you follow it along here it's gonna
00:00:49
split into two and then it's gonna take
00:00:51
a turn here and go into both of these
00:00:53
solenoids right here so we're gonna go

ahead and test these solenoids before we
00:00:57
go any further one of the first test

we're gonna do is the click or the sound
00:01:03
test so I'm gonna go ahead and take the
00:01:05
cover off of the battery because we need
00:01:06
to get access to it and I'm pretty much
00:01:08
gonna run a jumper wire from the
00:01:10
negative and the positive post of the
00:01:12
battery to each of the solenoids and we
00:01:14
want to energize it and see if it clicks
00:01:17
or make some noise now if it clicks it
00:01:20
doesn't necessarily mean that the part
00:01:22
is working correctly but it is a step in
00:01:24
the right direction and I do apologize
00:01:27
if I have any crappy angles here where
00:01:29
you can't see that well or if I'm not
00:01:31
making things perfectly clear for you to
00:01:33
understand I did not intend to shoot
00:01:35
this video so it was kind of like a last
00:01:37
minute thing and I just kind of went out

there and just try to get it done as
00:01:41
fast as I can

and now that we have our jumper wires
00:01:55
connected to one the solenoids we're
00:01:57
gonna go ahead and put the other end on
00:01:59
a negative side of the battery and once
00:02:01
we touch the positive side we should get
00:02:03
a clicking sound out of the solenoid and
00:02:08
as you can hear there's nothing going on
00:02:11
so this solenoid is completely dead so
00:02:13
we're gonna go ahead and try the other
00:02:14
solenoids
00:02:53
so it seems that this solenoid is also
00:02:56
completely dead so both of them are just
00:02:58
done for now I wish I had a brand new
00:03:00
one so I could go ahead and test it for
00:03:02
you and show you exactly well look at
00:03:03
this here goes a brand new one right

here I'm gonna go ahead and test it and

you can listen to this so if you're

testing your vehicle you know exactly

what to listen for

so now that we've confirmed that the new

solenoids do work they do click at least
00:03:41
another test you could do is the vacuum
00:03:43
test so on this outer port or the outer
00:03:46
nipple there I say we're gonna go ahead
00:03:49
and connect the vacuum gauge and we're
00:03:52
gonna put some sort of vacuum on it -
00:03:54
pretty much simulate what the car would
00:03:56
be doing when it's pulling vacuum
00:03:58
through the intake manifold so with the
00:04:01
vacuum up we're gonna go ahead and again
00:04:03
energize it and as you can see it opens
00:04:06
up the valve and it releases the vacuum
00:04:09
so I did that test on the other one and
00:04:12
sure enough the same exact results they
00:04:14
both work both of the new ones work and
00:04:18
now we're gonna go ahead and perform the
00:04:19
same exact vacuum test on the old
00:04:21
solenoids and once I energize them as
00:04:24
you can see it does not relieve the
00:04:25
pressure of the vacuum so it is a
00:04:28
hundred percent confirmed that these
00:04:29
solenoids are bad and I feel like I keep
00:04:32
saying solenoid solenoid solenoid I feel
00:04:35
like I'm gonna go crazy at the end of
00:04:36
this video now there is one more simple
00:04:39
test you can do which is basically back
00:04:41
probe the connectors you can see I have
00:04:42
two t pins coming out of it and the
00:04:45
other end of my wires I have them
00:04:47
connected to my test light so if you put
00:04:49
your key in the ignition and put it to
00:04:51
the on position you don't have to start
00:04:52
the car or anything like that just in
00:04:54
the on position your test lights should
00:04:57
light up if it doesn't light up just go
00:04:59
ahead and try to wiggle your t pins
00:05:02
around and just confirm that you are
00:05:04
making good contact with the actual
00:05:07
harness and once you turn the key off a
00:05:10
few seconds later the light should turn
00:05:11
off but I'm gonna go ahead and take it a
00:05:13
step further and I'm gonna use my
00:05:15
scanner to just pretty much a command
00:05:18
that actuator or the solenoids turn on
00:05:21
and off and as you can see when I turn
00:05:24
them on my test light turns on and when
00:05:26
I turn it off my test light turns off so
00:05:29
it's a hundred percent confirmed that
00:05:31
there is nothing wrong wrong with the
00:05:32
wiring and everything is okay now
00:05:35
luckily to replace this part is very
00:05:37
easy to get to there's only a few things
00:05:38
in your way you're gonna have to remove
00:05:40
this hose that's right here and as you
00:05:42
just saw you just kind of press the blue
00:05:44
tabs on the side and you pull up and
00:05:46
that whole hose to come out of which way
00:05:49
and there's only gonna be four screws
00:05:51
holding down the actual assembly as you
00:05:55
can see it's a Torx and they're pretty
00:05:57
easy to get to but you definitely want
00:05:59
to use a magnet as you're screwing them
00:06:00

just make sure you have your magnet
00:06:02
sitting right there because it's very
00:06:03
easy to drop one of your screws and
00:06:05
you're never gonna find it so just play
00:06:09
it safe use a magnet and yeah just go

ahead grab your new one and just kind of
00:06:13
snake it in there you want to be nice
00:06:16
and gentle with your you don't want to
00:06:17
force it you don't want to break
00:06:18
anything so just take your time and
00:06:21
eventually you'll get it in and put all
00:06:23
of your Torx screws back in it to hold
00:06:25
it down and start reconnecting
00:06:28
everything it's pretty straightforward

it's pretty easy it's why I did not go

to in depth on how to do it and now as

you can see I got everything put back

together all I have to do is put the
00:06:39
engine cover back on and also don't
00:06:41
forget to put your battery cover back on

the final thing I'm gonna do is go ahead

and clear the check engine light now I
